Meet Scality Team Member: Benjamin Morge

Scality’s leaders have created Le Club in order to recognize and reward team members selected each year for their exceptional contribution to the company.

Together with this acknowledgment, Le Club members are also offered the opportunity of taking a trip together, to rest and enjoy the Scality spirit outside the workplace.

For the year 2016, 16 employees have been chosen. Scality will publish a portrait of different team member once a week.

An Inquiring Mind

32 years old – Works at Scality Paris

Benjamin Morge

Benjamin Morge, Dev-Ops & Global Support Engineer at Scality

Benjamin Morge is insatiably curious. His appetite for foreign places has led him to travel all around the world and it’s this same curiosity for technical things that drives him to take apart his broken toaster to discover how it works in order to fix it.

And now more than ever before Benjamin can satisfy his inquisitive nature at Scality. As a support service engineer, his job is to solve any problems that could appear after the Scality software has been installed at a client. “What pleases me the most about my job is when I ‘dissect’ the lines of codes in order to discover the exact location of a bug,” he confides. “And for that it’s more than just technical competence that’s needed, you must have an inquiring mind.”

Benjamin discovered his passion for computer science quite by accident. Having studying medicine and then physics, he finally decided to change path once more, this time towards computer science after a friend had convinced him to buy his first computer. It was love at first sight and they have never been apart since. As soon as he had his degree, he started work as a member of a customer support team in a small start-up in Paris.

After three years however, the Parisian life style started to bore Benjamin. Having an appetite for something new, he decided to leave. “For me, in life, things have to keep moving,” he adds. It was therefore good timing when an old client of his offered him a job in Guadeloupe. He stayed there for three years, making the most of his free time exploring the length and breadth of the island and discovering the other numerous Caribbean islands.

When returning to Paris, Benjamin became team manager in another start-up, but his inquisitiveness soon led him to his post at Scality just two years later. Nowadays after two years in the company, this 33-year-old adventurer seems to have put away his back pack. “I love my current work, I would have to be offered a golden opportunity to tempt me to leave,” he confesses.

What keeps him happy in his job today is the adrenaline rush that follows when an unhappy client puts huge pressure on him to solve a problem as quickly as possible. Of course it’s also the satisfaction which comes from finding the solution. It’s the strong team spirit which reigns between the colleagues that reminds him of a rugby team, a sport which he adores and has played for a long time. “Everybody is united even in moment of crisis. The victory isn’t due to one individual but to the whole team,” he explains.

Passionate about his job, Benjamin doesn’t count his hours. “The first thing I do when I wake up is to put on my computer,” he says. “I check my emails and if someone needs a hand with something, I’m there. Again before I go to sleep, I open my mail box for one last time just to check that everything is OK”. This attitude has not gone unnoticed by those around him. “Benjamin is always there to help his clients or his coworkers at anytime of the day or night,” confides one of his colleagues.

Despite this non stop rhythm, Benjamin has far from lost his energy. Thirsty for new experiences, he dreams of traveling again, this time a trip to Australia, and professionally he plans to go and work at Scality USA. Decidedly for Benjamin, curiosity didn’t kill the cat.
