Scality’s High Performance object storage solution
Scality illustrates its powerful cloud storage solution based on high performance, ultra scalable RING object store powered by the Intel® Xeon® Processor E5 Family
San Francisco, CA – September 26th, 2012
Scality, the award winning cloud storage infrastructure innovator, today announced its participation in the Intel Cloud Builders program. The Intel Cloud Builder Reference Architecture white paper illustrates how Scality’s high performance object storage solution with Intel® Xeon® processor-based servers and technologies delivers a powerful Cloud infrastructure based on Scality RING Organic Storage.
“Participation in this program represents an important partnership for us. It further validates our position as the high performance, ultra scalable object store. ”, said Jérôme Lecat, Scality CEO.
Scality RING is entirely hardware agnostic and can run on any commodity server running Linux on x86 processors. The new Intel Xeon Processor E5 Family helps Scality to deliver faster processing during peak periods – such as data requests, key space operations and data protection using ARC* Erasure Code. Erasure Coding technology consumes CPU and memory intensively, to deliver perfect data protection at a fraction of the cost of replication.
“Scality leverages the Intel Xeon Processor E5 Family of processors for its intensive data processing needs, especially for Erasure Coding. Faster processing translates into using less hardware to reach higher data protection and performance“, confirms Serge Dugas, Chief Alliance Officer.
“ Leading cloud Data Centers have already absorbed exabytes of photos, media, and email. Yet this unstructured data continues to grow non-linearly. Storage solutions managing explosive data growth require more than just increased capacity, the storage software must be highly automated and scalable, while incorporating intelligence for data protection. The new Intel Xeon Processor E5 Family have converged multiple cores with key integrated storage features delivering energy efficient performance and the scalable data protection required for Cloud and Big Data applications“, said David Tuhy, General Manager of Intel Storage Division.
A few months ago ESG published a lab validation report, providing a benchmark with regard to Scality RING performance and scalability. The report measures IOPS, throughput and latency deployed on Intel infrastructure. It demonstrates the predictable linearity of RING’s performance given scaling hardware resources. This illustrates, not only RING’s ability to deliver high performance numbers, but that it also ensures that costs remain predictable as the store grows. * ARC is the acronym of Advanced Resilience Configuration, a built-in feature that tolerates several simultaneous racks, nodes or disks failures based on Erasure Coding techniques.
