Scality’s leaders have created Le Club to recognize and reward team members selected each year for their exceptional contribution to the company. 

Together with this acknowledgment, Le Club members are also offered the opportunity of taking a trip together, to rest and enjoy the Scality spirit outside the workplace.

For the year 2016, 16 employees have been chosen. Scality will publish a portrait of different team member once a week.

Nicolas Trangez, Technical Architect at Scality

“I’m not someone who can work on the same project for a very long time, I need to learn new things constantly, to have new experiences.” Nicolas Trangez has a big appetite for what’s new and at Scality, he can easily satisfy it. As a technical architect, Nicolas helps to define and design new software features and ensures that it all works perfectly together. This is a very broad role that allows him to tackle a lot of different topics and to meet a variety of people. “I’m very happy because I’ve got all the diversity I need,” he confides.

Nicolas’ life has changed quite a lot since he accepted an offer to work at Scality, almost two years ago. At the time, he had been working as an engineer for the same group of start-ups for 6 years when he decided to leave his home town, Ghent, in Belgium, where all his family and friends live, to move to Paris. But for Nicolas, it was for the best. Passionate about travel, he has been to Japan, Cuba, Egypt, China and across both Europe and the USA. Nicolas loved the idea of living in a new city and the fact that his job would take him around the world visiting Scality’s offices and clients.

Today, Nicolas’ role suits him perfectly. “I wanted to move away from the purely technical side of my job to get involved in the software building process, which is exactly what I’m doing now,” he explains. Quickly, Nicolas, 31 years old, proved his worth and gained the respect of his colleagues. “Nicolas has a deep knowledge of his field and has the ability to see the bigger picture rather than just the details,” reveals one of his co-workers. “In a rather short time he has became a great authority in his field, which is rare.”

This doesn’t mean that Nicolas isn’t down to earth and friendly with everyone. “I like to get to know my colleagues, especially outside work, when having lunch together or during parties,” he says. “In a start-up, it’s really important that people are connected.”

Nicolas has another quality that’s tailor made for the job, that of being a good listener. “In my role, listening is very important,” he says. “You have to take note of everybody’s needs and requirements, from the development team to the customers.”

In his private life, Nicolas shows the same open-minded spirit and the same love of diversity. He travels with his friends to meet new people and discover different places. He loves art. He is into all sorts of music, from classic to techno, and he is a enthusiastic violinist. He is also really interested in history and geopolitics.

Nicolas’ eagerness to do new things will never stop. In a corner of his mind, he guards the dream of creating his own start-up. “When you spend years working in start-ups, you see how things work and you learn different skills,” he explains. “One day, I may want to use all these skills to live the whole experience myself. And the only way to do this would be through my own project.”
