The rain stopped in New York just in time for Scality’s last SDS Day of 2017. High up on The PUBLIC Hotel’s 17th floor, Scality shared the view with more than 50 attendees and partners.
The event started New York style, with a networking session. Attendees grabbed snacks and took advantage of the opportunity to talk about their storage needs and solutions–current and future–with their peers, with people from Scality, and with representatives from our sponsoring partners Hewlett-Packard Enterprise, our Platinum Sponsor, and Cisco, Data Dynamics, Primary Data and Veeam, Gold Sponsors for the event.
David Savage kicked-off the event, introducing Jerome Lecat, the company’s CEO. Jerome shared thoughts on the Future of Storage and the reality of Multi-Cloud in a world where purpose, freedom and control are key. Following Jerome, HPE’s Patrick Osborne shared thoughts on digital transformation and how infrastructure is changing with the times.
Discussion of real-world software-defined storage deployments was up next, with consulting architect for Bloomberg Media, Loic Barbou, sharing how Bloomberg is harnessing multi-cloud services to enhance media workflow. Scality’s own Eric Toczek next shared a presentation that was developed by a Scality customer — a global hosting services provider — reviewing the evaluation process that the company followed to select a storage solution to host its 4 million email accounts.
We wrapped up with a great panel session on Governance and long-term data retention. Led by Paul Turner, Scality’s CMO, panelists Piyush Mehta of Data Dynamics, Ed Balduf of Primary Data, Matt Lloyd of Veeam and Alan Stearn of Cisco shared their thoughts on regulatory compliance, data security and data retention across clouds–private and public. And attendees shared thoughts as well, with several great discussion points coming from the audience as well.
As darkness fell, we all had some time to network again before heading out, with many attendees asking when the next SDS Day will be. We look forward to more SDS Days in 2018: we will share dates and locations soon!
