Mike Fahnert: The Guy Who Gets the Job Done

Scality’s leaders have created Le Club to recognize and reward team members selected each year for their exceptional contribution to the company. 

Together with this acknowledgment, Le Club members are also offered the opportunity of taking a trip together, to rest and enjoy the Scality spirit outside the workplace.

For the year 2017, 20 employees have been chosen. Scality will publish a profile of a different team member every other week.

Meet Mike Fahnert

When he was 19, Mike Fahnert started his own company selling hardware and software solutions for small businesses. “I was fascinated by using technology to help businesses solve their problems and be successful”, he explains. Mike still has the same passion today. In 35 years spent in the IT industry, where he has had several roles, from director of sales for a big company to CEO of a smaller one and even founder of a start-up, Mike has always followed the same objective of helping people with technology.

At Scality, where he has been for over two years now, Mike is pursuing this goal more than ever. “I quickly realized that Scality was a game changer and that data is the key to success for all companies today. Without access to all their data they wouldn’t be able to compete or even survive, and Scality provides that advantage. As strategic alliances director in the US, Mike has to empower HPE, Scality’s big partner, to sell their products and to make sure they generate as much revenue as possible from this alliance. For that, he needs to build a close relationship with all the different parties. Mike has lots of qualities made for the job. He is enthusiastic, he loves talking to people, he is honest and always willing to move forward or find a solution. “Mike creates strong bonds with people by combining his fantastic thoroughness with the sincerity needed to enjoy working with others. He has an amazing ability to endear himself to people to gain their trust and commitment,” reveals one of his colleagues. “Mike is always seen as the guy who can get things done, the one to make sure it all happens,” says another.

Mike has a strong relationship with his colleagues too. He is always available when they need his help and never misses a chance to share his knowledge. He also loves spending time with them outside work. “Mike’s team spirit goes above and beyond just hitting a sales quota. He goes out of his way to make his colleagues feel like part of a team, and his friendship extends beyond what is essential for work,” says one of his co-workers.

Despite all the successes he has had during his long career, Mike has stayed modest. He never pushes himself to the front. His satisfaction mainly comes from helping others to be successful rather than taking the credit. For him, being chosen for Le Club is a great accomplishment, but only because it means that he has achieved what the company wanted him to do. “Mike is proud of his achievements but is also very focused on getting the job done rather than wasting energy on promoting himself, letting his results speak for themselves,” says one of his colleagues.

In the future, Mike doesn’t plan on slowing down. “I would like to go back to a leadership role, not to be in the spotlight but to live the experience of taking a whole team across the line and help them all to be successful,” he confides.

Passionate about work, Mike never sees himself retiring. He hopes one day maybe to open his own bed and breakfast in Hawaii, his favourite destination, a way for him to enjoy the place whilst helping others have a good time. Just as he has has always done.
