Meet Scality Team Member: Thomas Fillioud

Scality’s leaders have created Le Club to recognize and reward team members selected each year for their exceptional contribution to the company. 

Together with this acknowledgment, Le Club members are also offered the opportunity of taking a trip together, to rest and enjoy the Scality spirit outside the workplace.

For the year 2016, 16 employees have been chosen. Scality will publish a portrait of different team member once a week.

Two years ago, Thomas Fillioud was employed as sales manager by Scality to establish the company in the UK. “I was on my own for nearly a year,” he confides. “I loved the challenge of starting from zero and doing that first sale. It was so exciting to build something new and to show Scality that I had the ambition necessary for success.”

Thomas has a strong pioneer spirit. Thirsty for new experiences, he throws himself into everything he does with passion and determination.

At 35 years old, today Thomas shows the same spirit he has throughout his career. After earning a degree in computer science, he worked as an engineer but he quickly decided to move into sales. Then in 2005, Thomas and his partner decided to leave their homeland, France, to live in England where they have lived ever since and where their two children were born.

Thomas moved to England in order to master the English language so that he could then make his dream come true: working for a computer giant. To achieve this, he was prepared to do anything, take on odd jobs, have intensive English lessons, and hang out exclusively with anglophones. His efforts finally paid off when one year later he was employed by Dell.

However, a few years later, Thomas once again sought pastures new. “I needed a change in my career path,” he says. “So my partner and I decided to take a year out and do a tour of Asia. This gave us the occasion to think about starting a family and have a rethink professionally.”

Once back home, Thomas seized a golden opportunity: a job offer working for a French software start-up. He was taken on to set up the British sales department. His new role suited him to a ‘T’ and lead him to work for two other start-ups before arriving at Scality.

Today, Thomas is really happy. “Scality is like a family to me, everybody is united towards working to the success of the company,” he reveals. “And to know that my own achievements add to the success of the company is a real motivation for me.” Thomas’ happiness can also be attributed to the satisfaction that he gives his clients. “I take pleasure in making my customers happy,” he explains. “I see each sale as the start of a partnership between the customers and myself, I stay close to them at all times, and I put myself in their shoes so that I can understand exactly what they need.” One of his colleagues adds, “Thomas has a great relationship with his customers, he is highly dedicated to them. Even after a sale, he makes a point of following each customer personally.”

Outside of work, Thomas has the same energy. He enjoys playing tennis, he also does martial arts and motocross biking. He loves to party with his family, friends and colleagues. He dreams of traveling around the world with his children ensuring that they too have an open-minded spirit.

At the moment, Thomas is focused on Scality’s success but he always keeps a corner of his mind free for a dream that he’s had for a long time: creating his own company. “After having spent seven years in start-ups, I’m starting to acquire a lot of good experience,” he says. “One day I hope to be brave enough to go for it.”
