Career evolution and promotions in technology

Anne Harper (see her portrait published on the blog) has changed positions recently. She tells us about her new role and what it brings her.

Tell us about your new position…
In my previous role, as part of the engineering team, I had to make sure that every new version of the Scality software would be quality controlled and ready for the deadline. Now, as release captain, I continue doing that but I have more responsibilities. I now also make sure that any problem that could appear at the clients, once the new version is released, is taken care of, and together we decide which one of these is the most serious and needs to be fixed urgently.

What do you like best about your new job?Anne Harper Tech Lead Scality
The fact that I can interact with a lot of people. In order to improve the software and solve problems, the different teams must communicate. In my role, I’m in touch with the engineering teams and the technical services, and I try my best to make communication easier between everybody, so we can find solutions quickly together. I really like this kind of relationship where I can talk to people honestly, listen to them to understand what their opinions are on certain issues and then make sure that everyone is aware of these problems.

What are your plans for the future?
I don’t have any! I’m really happy where I am right now. When I started in the company, more than three years ago, as a quality assurance engineer, I would never have imagined having the role I do today. Now I’m really satisfied to have a position where I can see the bigger picture and help people to improve things, and I want to continue doing that.
