Dovecot is one of the most used and regarded IMAP/POP3 server. Again, it is widely used in the education/government and Labs community.

Open-Xchange is an open-source alternative to Exchange, competitor of Zimbra and offers business-class email and sharing capability across devices.
It sits on top of dovecot and can then be used in conjunction with Scality RING to handle large-scale email deployments. The UX/UI for the webmail is very impressive and a core strength of the solution. It integrates very simply with existing IT infrastructure (user provisioning and authentication) for a very simple deployment even in complex systems.
Zimbra Collaboration Suite is the open-source alternative to Exchange for Enterprises and xSPs. It has a feature-full webmail application that plugs into existing IT infrastructure. Zimbra is also a fully-fledged email server offering IMAP and POP3 access, as well as file sharing.
Zimbra is tightly integrated with Scality for large scale deployments of millions of users and billions of emails.
